FAQ

Frequently asked questions about StreamsFree, streaming availability, and VPNs.

About StreamsFree

What is StreamsFree?+
StreamsFree is a free tool that lets you search where any movie or TV show is streaming across 60+ countries. It checks Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, and dozens more services so you can find content on the platforms you already pay for — without subscribing to something new.
Is StreamsFree really free?+
Yes. StreamsFree is completely free to use with no account required. We are supported by affiliate partnerships with VPN providers and streaming services.
How does StreamsFree know what is streaming where?+
We aggregate data from multiple streaming availability providers and cross-reference them for accuracy. Results are cached and refreshed regularly to stay up to date.
Why does availability differ between countries?+
Streaming services license content on a per-country basis. A movie available on Netflix in the US may not be on Netflix in the UK, and vice versa. This is due to distribution agreements between studios and platforms.

VPNs & Streaming

Is it legal to use a VPN for streaming?+
VPNs are legal in most countries. They are widely used for privacy, security, and preventing ISP throttling. However, using a VPN to access content outside of its licensed region may violate the terms of service of some streaming platforms.
Which VPN is best for streaming Netflix?+
NordVPN is the top pick for Netflix. It worked reliably with Netflix libraries and delivered the fastest speeds of any VPN tested — fast enough for 4K without buffering.
Will a VPN slow down my internet?+
All VPNs add some overhead because your traffic is encrypted and routed through an additional server. The recommended VPNs retain 85-90% of your base speed, which is more than enough for 4K streaming.
Can streaming services detect VPNs?+
Yes, and many actively try to block them. The top providers invest in rotating IP addresses and anti-detection technology to maintain reliable access.
Do free VPNs work for streaming?+
Generally, no. Free VPNs have limited server options, slower speeds, data caps, and most are blocked by streaming platforms. The most affordable paid option (Surfshark) costs less than $2 per month.
Can I use a VPN to watch my home streaming library while traveling?+
Yes. Connecting to a VPN server in your home country restores your normal library. All three recommended VPNs handle this reliably at the time of writing.
